I caught wind of a possible partial building collapse today at 811 Washington. Beings I'm at work, I can't find anything else out. Does anyone know what building that is?

The Renaissance Suites.
Part of the facade on the east side came off. Washington is closed between 8th & 9th.

No, that isn't smoke coming out of the building, there was dirt/water on the window I took the picture through.
Weird. I thought that was a solid brick wall.
Anyway, I hope they can restore the mural. Gonna cost a bundle.

Why the cheap "vinyl" siding on this place? Did it used to butt up against another building?
Wonder if this had anything to do with the monsoon that rolled through town yesterday... Not a word in the PD that I could find anyway

Let me rephrase: not a word on STLtoday.com....at least when I checked late morning.

This story was up at 6:30 yesterday morning. It was updated in the afternoon:
Regarding damage to a downtown hotel, plywood at least temporarily will replace the damaged part of the mural on the east side of the Renaissance Suites hotel on Washington Avenue.
"It won't be very pretty, I'm afraid," said Robert Bray, general manager of the suites and the rest of the Renaissance Grand hotel complex next to America's Center.
Before it was damaged in the storm, the trompe l'oeil – or trick of the eye -- mural covered nearly all of the Renaissance Suites side that faces the convention center. High winds Tuesday afternoon pulled down a large section of the 25-story mural painted on a sheetrock-like material attached to a shallow metal frame on the windowless part of the hotel's east side.
Workers examined the mural Wednesday and removed pieces loosened by the high wind. Bray was unable to say how long plywood will cover the damaged section, which spans about six floors.

This photo gallery was also available on the site before 7 am yesterday with about 14 photos including shots of the Renaissance Hotel. There are 24 shots in total in the gallery currently.
