New City Diner location in Grand Center

According to a fairly reliable source (a friend who works for a restaurant neighboring the Fox), City Diner is expanding from the current location to a second location by the Fox. I didn't get the info on exactly where, but I think this will be a great addition to the area, and a great location for downtown residents.

Anyone heard anything?

this is awesome! I have been hoping for a diner to open up around SLU for 3 years now! I think that it will bring a lot to the area, and City Diner already has a great reputation here. I hope that this is true!

I thought that I had read (either here or in a food blog) that the new City Diner was supposed to open by the end of 2008. I always meant to ask our resident food guru, but I never got around to it.

City Diner rocks, and if they open around the Fox, I'd love it. I have a feeling that SLU students would flock there more than they would the Wm. Shakespeare's, even though that's lovely. It's just more in line with the general resident profile of Midtown... though you do have to consider Fox-goers, too.

Yes. My boyfriend's the one who made the discovery of Steve on the scooter.

He also called City Diner and confirmed their new location.

Spoke to Peter Spoto, the owner of City Diner, earlier today. He confirmed that the new location is on track. He called it "a 95% done deal." He said the new diner will be located by the Fox Box Office and will be accessible from the Fox (as well as from the street.) He also said that he'll try to send me some additional info/updates... which I will gladly forward to this thread.

He should be looking about a 1/2 mile east of Grand in Midtown alley, already got 5 restaurants and looking to add more

The project is still a "go". They're just tying up some loose ends. Should have more info pretty soon.

I haven't seen any signs yet. They still have the paper up blocking the windows so maybe something is going on inside? Does anyone know more?

Is the City Diner location in GC close to opening yet? Any clean up on the front of the Humboldt entrance yet?
