An idea was thrown ouot amongst friends a few nights ago to organize a Metrolink Pub Crawl. It'd involve buying a full day's pass and hitting up as many bars as possible along the route. The Landing, CWE, Downtown, Clayton, should be easy, but I am looking for any and all suggestions of some places to hit....maybe a quick drink at every stop?

Tom's in the CWE is probably the closest to that stop - Magee's would have been nice if it were still standing!!!!! At the Forsyth stop you have Kreuger's . . .

There already is a huge once a year metro crawl-they call it Cookie's Trainwreck.

This year it started at the organizers house in Shrewsbury, where a local drumline, police, the Oscar Meyer Weiner mobile and the Shrewsbury Mayor escorted the throng to the Shrewsbury station. Then the actual crawl started at Feisty bulldog, (formerly Trainwreck) and proceded to several other bars on the landing, Jack Patricks, Tom's (which had Karoake set up) and another in clayton...

over 120 people showed, though only 70 started at the beginning.

Really fun gig.

Actually, nix the Whistle Stop, that's a bit of a walk from the station, and probably not worth it. The Belleville Station has plenty of Wilco/UncleTupelo-esque, Whiskey and Stag Beer joints that you may enjoy more.

An urbanstl Metrolink Pub Crawl sounds like a great idea. Easy escape too if it turns out that everyone who shows up is a bore. I'm in if anybody else wants to do it.

There were more than 3 women at the last 2 forum meetings I went to.

I'm up. I'm bored. So I figured I'd throw out a few ideas for this thing.

First off, sorry for hijacking this from Chris in DT who just wanted bar ideas for his friends. I & hopefully others will get to that shortly. Hopefully Chris & friends (you have female friends, right? )will want to be a part of this palatial event.

I think this could turn into a good annual (who knows, maybe even more frequent) event. Maybe it will eventually convince Metro to keep some trains running after the bars close. At least on the weekends.

I'll start w/ the day. Seems like Thanksgiving week is a good time to shoot for. We need a day in which people are free most of the day. Turkey day is out & probably like me several people have family plans for at least part of the Saturday after.

That pretty much leaves the day before & the day after. I'm sure many here will be working on Wednesday & not everyone here has the luxury of being in college & having the day off. Friday seems like a decent day, but it is the busiest shopping day of the year so that could pose problems. It could also end up giving us a few good stories to tell.

Ok, my next thought is the route. I'm thinking for the first time out it would probably be best to keep it simple & stick w/ the original line. After working out the kinks on this 1st one we could shoot for 2 separate crawls that meet in an orgy of pandemonium midday @ the forest park station.

Alright, next is making it possible for some 2 join us @ some point on the trip. 2 solutions: A specific timeframe @ each bar which IMO is a little geeky & probably wouldn't work well anyway or a contact # or 2 for someone to find out where the crawl is. I might be willing to give out my cell # for that.

Onto the bars. Should we try to hit a bar @ every stop, or do we want to do something like every other? I'm thinking 1 UMSL stop is enough.

Now I'm gonna post all the stops along the original line & throw out some suggestions. I'll edit this post or repost it a few times as we narrow down our selections. I'm not sure if we want to take this crawl into scary Illinois  Maybe that's something we should also wait for the 2nd or 3rd crawl to try. I'll lis the Illinois stops for now, but my instinct tells me we'll be ending the crawl on the landing.

I think we should shoot for variety on this crawl so I will start with:

Lambert Airport For variety I think we should kick it off at an airport bar. Maybe we can cajole some lonely travelers to join us. :D

North Hanley

UMSL North

UMSL South

St. Charles Rock Rd.

Wellston

Delmar Loop I'm sure many would suggest Blueberry Hill, but I'm going to suggest one of my favorites: Delmar Lounge. Seriously our options on the Loop are nearly limitless, so we might just decide this one after the others have been decided so we can have our variety.

Forest Park

Central West End Llywelyns

Grand

Union Station Uhh, I dunno. Hard Rock & Houlihan's seem kinda like lame choices. Does the Key West Cafe (never been) have a bar?

Scottrade Center

Busch Stadium Mercury

8th & Pine

Convention Center

Laclede's Landing If this is the last stop I think a good final destination would be the Big Bang. just the type of place for a bunch of people who've been drinkin' all day. That or we could all stroll over to where Mississippi Night's used to be & form a drunken acapella act to curse Lumiere for tearing it down.

If we go to Illinois:

East Riverfront

5th & Missouri

Emerson Park

Jackie Joyner-Kersee Youth Center

Washington Park

Fairview Heights

Memorial Hospital

Swansea

Belleville

Southwestern Illinois College

Shiloh - Scott

I can think of a variety of places to visit at the Belleville Station.

I think it's important we plan this out, simply because drinking, and riding, can lead to screwing up a schedule, and missig out on the last train.

Well, name 'em & I'll add 'em to the list. I've named myself official route planner.

I agree this need to be planned out. I almost got stranded on the landing after a Blues game when the last train left earlier than we expected. I just think we should allow for a little wiggle room.

Nothing says nerd herd more than a bunch of guys checking off names of bars on a clipboard. Unless someone wants to volunteer to be den mother & nerd wrangler.

You up for the job Xing?

Cool, nothing like "lookin' for a purpose from a neon sign"

well I guess that was Son Volt --but still from the same lineage of bands

For the Belleville Station, I suggest Main Street Jazz and Blues.

Main Street Jazz and Blues -

These 2 places can be emergency options, and are near by the first option.

Mosaics on Main - Coffee House , but serves beer and wine. Art and Music.

Blue Agave Club - Tequila. Live Music.

Gracias Xing, I'm gonna go w/ the coffee shop for now just to keep the variety factor. Although I may switch to Main Street Jazz & Blues if it becomes the final destination.

My thinking on this is that if we cross into Illinois (which I'm not opposed to, just wanna be sure we don't bite off more than we can chew, especially the 1st time around) is that we will obviously have to skip several stops. Metrolink trains stop running around midnight.(I'm tellin' ya, youi're killin' me metrolink. Run the trains longer, at least on the weekend to get the bar crowd home safely)

We will hafta be 2 our final destination by midnight so that those who just wanna catch the train home can do so. The rest of us can have our cars parked or designated drivers waiting @ the final destination. A good final destination will be open 'til @ least 3, have some food & be a good place to just hang out for the rest of the evening, so those who took it easy & want to drive home can.

Ok, unless anyone objects, I'm just going to assume we're shooting for Friday Nov. 23 @ this point. I'd say we start around noon @ the airport (& hijack us some travelers  )

In my estimation, in order for us to have a decent amount of time to have a drink & not feel completely rushed @ each we need to limit ourselves to 8-10 stops before reaching our final destination midnightish.
