Two historic buildings, homes at 3953 Blair and 3961 Blair, in the Hyde Park Historic District received reprieves yesterday when the Preservation Board voted to deny demolition permits for them.

3953 Blair is a two-story flat roofed Italianate framed home built in 1895. The original cornice and wood windows are intact.

3961 Blair is a very rare wood frame home in the Greek Revival style -- probably the last of its kind in the region. Its orignal wooden clapboards and trim are still there.

Both were acquired by the City after their owners abandoned them. Either would be a unique home for less than the cost of a cookie cutter Downtown loft.

Drive by 3961, in particular. Wouldn't it be more interesting living there than in a former warehouse with something called Shoppes in the ground floor?

Nope. DT loft > North Saint Louis. nobody wants to live in North St. Louis right now. I wouldn't have been quite so blunt, but since you dissed my upcoming hood....

That's great - the online agenda stated that the original recommendation was to demolish 3953. So much potential...

I wish the powers-that-be in this city would've taken the opportunity to preserve the beautiful, intact, and historic Century Building- instead of demolishing it for a "cookie-cutter" parking garage "with something called Shoppes in the ground floor".

Anyway, I'm happy to hear the structures on Blair were spared!
