Does anyone know what is happening to Plaza Square Apartment. They were bidded on, but after that there wasn't any other news forthcoming

It was announce in the St. Louis Business Journal last week that the sale of the Plaza Square apartment complex finally closed on November 15th, 2004. Urban Developers, the winning bidder in August, bought the complex for $21.5 million and plans to spend $10 million renovating the complex. They say they are in it for the long haul.

I am glad that they are going to be renovated. Is the article on the internet?

The update on the financing was not online... it was a small paragraph or two in the print edition.

Plaza Square updating is in the works. The Plaza Square owners said they might consider creating some condos and expanding the size of some apartments as plans progress.
<snip>
Over the last year, the Shaikhs have renovated about 60 of the apartments, including some studios; they furnished 10 as corporate suites. Today, Shaikh said, they're nearly filled with a mix of downtown workers, students, and others.

Does anyone know of anyone who has lived in Plaza Square? Or has anyone been inside to tour any spaces? I may need temporary housing for a few months and their price is right. But I'm sure there is a reason that the price is right. Any thoughts?

If you're talking about those apartments south of locust with the green awnings, then Yes I've been inside of there many times. My grandmother has lived there for the past 23 years(maybe longer but I wasn't born before then). It's one reason I'm moving to where I am, I'll be closer to her. PM me any questions you may have.
^^ You're grandma is cool as hell for living there.
One of my co-workers is moving in on Friday! She's really excited.

^Yeah, my parents moved to the suburbs 23 years ago so I could have good schooling (and I'm grateful that they did as now I can get into many top institutions) , but my grandparents on both sides still remain staunch city dwellers.
It's time for me to retun to the city though.

Some of those apartments must have great views. They looked really cool in Grids arial photos.

I didn't find this thread until NOW (sad, I know)... I lived in a studio apartment back in '94 - '95 when I was first out of college. I LOVED that I could walk to Union Station, the Post Office, and the brand new Kiel Center. I remember the bathroom and closets were huge, the kitchen was on the teeny side. My experience there was positive and I have many fond memories.
When I moved back last summer, I told my friends I would move back there if I couldn't get the seller's realtor to act right and my friends were not having it!! Whenever I drive by, I have mixed emotions -- great memories but sad because the place looks a little run-down. Hopefully there will be progress on upgrading/updating the apartments!
Say, Coach...what was the soundproofing like? Could you hear the neighbors through the walls, through the floors?
When I lived there, the soundproofing was fine. I never heard any of my neighbors -- I think some of them might have been a little older. Hopefully none of them heard me -- I was always playing music and staying up late/getting in late sometimes. I never received any complaints or visits, so I attribute that to solid soundproofing as well.

As I was hinting at earlier, condos in the $100,000 range will soon be available.
Page 9 of the Business Journal has the article about Chicago-based Silverstone (headed by Steve Anrod...one of the planners of the Parc East Tower). They have bought 60 Plaza Square, the one building formerly owned by Bethesda, of the group of six. Condos will be available VERY quickly as it's mostly a cosmetic upgrade. I think this wil open downtown living to a whole lot of people who could not previously afford to live there.
The 13-story place has great views and a balcony on every other unit.
