Bargain Basement 2:30-3:30

Vickroids 3:30-4:30

Monads 4:30 - 530

Jerusalem and the Starbaskets 5:30-6:30

the 75's 6:30-7:30

Airport Elementary School 7:30

The California & Cherokee stage will have:

11:30 - 12:30 "Banda Aires del Sur" - 18 piece Mexican Band

1:00 - 2:00 St. Louis Symphony Brass/Jazz Group

2:00 - 3:00 Mariachi Los Compadres

3:00 - 5:00 Boogie Chyld

5:30 - 7:00 Javier Mendoza

7:30 - 9:00 Tamborazo Mixteco

The festival runs from 11am to 9pm and is a block longer this year than last. Several of the beer booths are run by neighborhood associations so pick a neighborhood that you want to support and start drinking.

I was there as well. I really love cherokee street. It has so many cool shops and the food is always delicious. I just hope the area doesn't become victim of gentrification and lose its unique culture.

went on Saturday afternoon. Other than having the temperature 15 degrees warmer I wouldn't have changed a thing! Much more authentic than the West county meat market that is Hacienda on Cinco.

We had a real good time on Saturday. Went down after the Cardinal game and was amazed at the wide makeup of the crowd. Great people watching as all different types and colors hung out and had fun.

You are all foolish. You should be at La Salsa's in Creve Coeur today. That's the only authentic celebration around.

I disagree. This area gentrified means North Grand or South Broadway one day might be the next Barrio. We have PLENTY of streets to revive in the city.

The event was 1 block larger this year and while it seemed like it wasn't as crowded I think it gave more space and allowed people to move around easier. Especially as it got later and some people had too much Tequiza in them. I think I saw 1 fight last year and none this year.

A few images from Cherokee on Saturday.

Looks like it was a fun time.

That would be Minerva Lopez, owner of the soccer-oriented store, Gooolll, on Cherokee Street. Additionally she has a small Mexican cultural center at the same location.

St. Louis has got to be top 3 strangest cities in America. New Orleans sets the bar pretty high, but St. Louis also gets strange. Certainly much more so than any other mid-western, northeastern, mid-Atlantic, or southwestern city. San Fransisco might be up their (certainly was) but their oddity is threatened by programmers and bankers. Portland is supposed to have a nice weirdo coefficient. But seriously: City Museum, Brewery, Venice Cafe, tons of music, the entire Northside, laissez-faire liquor laws and police, decadent Gilded Age history colliding with rambunctious Missouri and Ill-side wahoos. St. Louis is strange in all the right ways, typified by these Cinco de Mayo photos. Nice work. Wish I'd been there.

I agree that it's up there for strangeness, and I believe this to be it's one of our greatest strengths. Add Mardi Gras to your list.

The problem is again that contingent of people that do not see this as a strength, and rather focus on silly mottos that change every couple years...like being "connected". (I still prefer simply "Meet me in St. Louis") Horrible horrible horrible marketing. The folks who run the marketing of St. Louis need to be fired, IMO.

Most people outside of stl don't see stl being strange, only those who have friends to introduce them to those parts. Most people outside stl see only downtown, the arch, beer, and baseball...pretty much a typical Midwest town, and I blame most of that on how city promoters have promoted the city in the past decades. More than likely, those in charge of marketing st. louis are not "strange" individuals and do not see the relevancy of this "strangeness".

Great pics!!!! I wish I couldve made it.

What a great, simple and probably effective marketing campaign (moreso than recent efforts anyway)...

Meet me in St. Louis... for Cinco de Mayo

Meet me in St. Louis... for a Cardinals game

Meet me in St. Louis... for Mardi Gras

Meet me in St. Louis... at the Zoo

Meet me in St. Louis... at the Arch

Meet me in St. Louis... for a convention

Meet me in St. Louis... for a flight to China

Too often St. Louis is marketed to folks in Witchita and Des Moines as basically those cities with Cardinals baseball, a zoo, and a brewery.

And nothing against Witchita and Des Moines, but those who experience STL, really experience it, know that it is not your typical midwestern city.

as phoaddict said, we'll never be New Orleans or San Francisco. But we are more like those cities than most people realize.

I think the best marketing for STL is to promote it as the most funky city in the midwest. Yes we are a midwestern city, and that is a selling point in itself, but you can find neighborhoods and customs here that aren't what you would expect.

Yeahhh or even get rid of the St. Louis part and just make it "Meet me at the zoo/downtown/soulard/city museum" because the "meet me at" part implies St. Louis anyway. I like it.

no it doesn't. only if you are from St. Louis would you think of that. this would be an ad for the rest of the country/ world.

Now all they need is a "Meet me in St Louis" t-shirt logo, like the "I (heart) NY"

Seems so simple.

How in the world did they think "St. Lou is all within reach" was a good campaign? :? :?:

So, it could work something like this: "Meet Me at The Muny . . . The Muny in Forest Park!" Maybe, it could even be set to music, like a little jingle.
