The St. Louis Business Journal reported today that the Linen Lofts project at 3124 Olive Street is moving forward and should be ready for move-ins by fall 2005. The project will include a jazz club and 10 second-floor, 2- and 3-bedroom loft apartments. Other dining options are being looked as part of the project.

The entire outside of the building was tuckpointed about 2-3 months ago. That was quite a project, with the way the tile is on the outside. They have also put a new roof on. I can't wait to see what the interior ends up looking like.

It's going to have a 300 car parking lot??

I guess they can sell the spaces when the Billikens have basketball games, but that seems like an awfully large parking lot for this development.

Agreed. I'm sure they'll set out the usual "Event Parking" signs in front of the building during events to suck everyone's money away.

Anyway, those pictures look wonderful. I love that building, too. There's something about the way it looks on a sunny day when the sun goes straight down Lindell/Olive. It looks very...hmm...Neo-Classical/Italian Renaissance. I like it.

I noticed this bldg the last time I was in town. I also really like this bldg too. The floor plans taped to the window look huge too.

Rode by that building tonight during moonlight ramble and it looks good. I had to do a double take. It's one of the nicest buildings that I have seen. The inside is looking good too.

The area around it desperately needs some new development. It's a great building but it's surrounded by empty fields. An 300-car surface lot is going to squander any opportunity to create density, and isn't density what city living is all about? What was once an ultra-urban section of the city has degraded into fields and surface parking lots? With all that empty land, I can't understand why SLU wants to tear down miraculously perserved blocks along Locust rather than use the available land.

I was just looking at Integration's website and am very impressed with the work they have done. There are some lofts on Locust they did that are awesome. Very cool stuff. Can't imagine what the price tag on those bad boys were though.

I visited Integration's booth at the Lot expo on Saturday night and from what I was told the parking lot is only going to be 150 spaces. It sounds like they will be ready to move in around November 2005. It's looking great!

So, what kinds of retail do you guys think would be good at this location?

It seems like the space would be great for a micro-brewery or sports bar, especially being next to SLU's new arena.

There is already the Greisediek Brewpub going in. You nailed it with the microbrew idea. I don't know what else is going into the building though. This area really has great potential.

Wow -- what a gorgeous building!

I'm always amazed to see how decorative these old industrial / warehouse / office buildings are for such a utilitarian purpose (originally). It's great to see them brought back to life!

Are you sure Greisediek is going in? How'd you hear that?

Probably, but it might work better closer to SLU. Then again, it would be close to Harris-Stowe, which doesn't have many dining options around it.
