I just received tentative word that there will be a public meeting to unveil the new Opus tower on Saturday, April 15, 9:00am at the Schlafly branch library in the CWE. Unfortunately I will be in Miami that weekend, but I want EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU SUPPORTERS TO BE THERE!!!!
Represent the cause!
Represent the cause!
I'll be there. I'll take pics, and maybe they'll have copies of the renderings.
^Yes please! Tell them people from around the world are checking in with UrbanStLouis to see the renderings. That is no joke.

Check out the letter to the editor in this week's West End Word:
Letter to the editor: CWE should grasp opportunities while it can

To the editor:
I would like to congratulate the Word for providing an excellent community forum. Hopefully, discussion promotes growth, not hostility among residents of the city.
I would like to commend the group that is in favor of high-rises in our neighborhood. I have written in the past in support of this issue and hope to be one of the signers of a petition against the naysayers. Unfortunately, there is a group that should probably sell at a profit and move beyond Clayton where they wouldn?t be offended by urban development.
How does this group propose to increase the city?s revenues, support the shops and restaurants and bring people back into the city if they continue their conservative ranting? Again, this is the thinking of a senior citizen who has witnessed many changes and for the first time is seeing an opportunity for a dynamic change from which many will profit.

I think we should hand out flyers as I did for the S Grand McDonalds development.

REMINDER about tomorrow's meeting at the Schlafly branch of the STL Public Library, 9:00am. I will not be there, so represent.
I received word that the Citizens for Responsible [Conservative] Development are rallying their troops to speak out against this project...even though they have no idea what the new design will look like. Looks like they are uniformly against anything from Opus on that site, even if they don't know what it is. That's why you guys should prepare statements as to why a highrise on that site is GOOD for the neighborhood and for the city. Please, PLEASE have as many people speaking on our behalf as possible. It is very, very important!!!!

The latest from the grapevine:
The revised Opus tower proposed for Lindell & Euclid has received final approval!!! Bye bye, Heart Association! Hello sleek new tower full of new neighbors!!!!

any word from "citizens for responsible (and low-lying) development"

I don't know they all huffed and puffed there way out of the room after the meeting since some of their key speakers made asses out of themselves.
Wow, you guys are doing a really great job with this. It's hard to just sit back and read about it...
How can we make the CRD more obsolete?
I'm sure they will reuse the same signatures of people who signed back when the project was first introduced. We should launch a campaign for the CRD to have to have everybody resign, and with the proper knowledge of the petition they are signing.

I'm in! Even though I really don't think they have a chance in hell of stopping this project, I would be more than willing to counter their petition. A new meeting, shall we?

I?m in but I need to know a week in advance of the set date so I can make sure I am not scheduled to work.
Well, we're going to need to schedule another meeting in the near future to discuss McDonalds, and the haps there, and our next steps...along with any other projects we plan to get involved in.
Also, we need to have more updates on the blog...it's pretty stagnant. I think that anytime we have an update on a project we are involved in, there should be a post, or anytime we're in the news, another post. At least until we can figure out how we're going to do our other website.

Yes, I have been a slacker with regards to the blog. I truly think that the in wake of Jane Jacobs' death, we need to get as active as possible. The McDonald's issue is paramount. We should meet again soon.

^ I agree! Now that the McDonalds issue has been tabled, it gives us more time to organize our plan of attack.
(Those of you that haven't yet might want to check out the article in the South Side Journal. Notice how there's suddenly no mention of that proposed senior citizens housing that was supposed to rise on the site of the present McDonalds? Oh, we didn't see that one coming, did we?)
Any weeknight in the next couple of weeks will work for me, but I will be out of town for the first weekend of May. Since I didn't get to attend the last one, how did the Coffee Cartel work? Should we meet there again, or find a spot closer to South Grand since the McDonalds issue is more on the front burner (no pun intended) these days?
