From my observation of certain threads, I began to wonder- Which of St Louis' local stations best promotes the urban lifestyle? Some stations appear to have a bias against the city. Some present news stories in favor. So what's your opinion?
Channel 5 is the worst. They always cater to the suburban soccer moms. Watching Channel 5 makes me sick. It's an embarrassment for a big city news station.
You forgot to put an option for none. I don't even watch TV news anymore, the 30 minute newscast is nothing more than a couple of fluff pieces, a car crash, a murder, the weather, and 2 seconds of sports. It's just not interesting to me. Nothing is in depth.
2 seems to be the best, 5 the worst, and 4 floating in the middle somewhere.
I always thought that 2 was soft on its news. Reporter quality seems low. 5 is horrible. How can anyone stand to watch Ditzy the weather girl is beyond me.
4 always seems to have the most solid news and their sports coverage is decent, thought eveyone has to love Frank "nothin but net" Cusamano.

I honestly never watch local news anymore. Whenever I do see it, it's just depressing. I think I hate local media in general. Whenever I hear a story about how something ridiculous thought to be a carcinogen turns out to actually help your blood pressure levels, I just roll my eyes. It happens everyday.
National news is not obviously not immune either. The Today show is sometimes nauseating as well. I was watching Fahrenheit 911 the other day, and there's the segment that Moore uses to depict the media's spreading the culture of fear. One scene shows a guy being interviewed on the Today Show by Matt Lauer (sp?). This guy is marketing his new office tower parachutes for people trapped in a burning building above the 10th floor. He claims they're very easy to put on, but his assistant has a lot of trouble and just gives up. It's painfully embarassing to watch--and the news does segments like this all the time.

I would have to vote for "None of the Above". I don't think any of the news stations know much of anything about the city (especially since none of them know the geography and neighborhoods of the area at all), let alone promote it in any way.
I just want to know whats up with the Dominatrix/news anchorwoman leather suit's people like Diane Lane are always sporting. I'm always waiting to see her whip Mike Bush with her leather whip before pouring hot wax all over the place. Is it supposed to be stylish?
^I have thought about that before too. And I'll agree that the stations all around are pretty ignorant towards the city, I was basically ranking least ignorant to most.
It's funny how the two station's that are located downtown seem to be the most biased towards urban living. I'm sure a decline in urban living wouldn't affect their station, but it's still pretty odd.
FOX 2 has been having quite a few stories on this recently, which alone puts it on top. Yet FOX 2 is located quite a distance from downtown. This is the only news cast I will watch for the full amount of time. They have a good balance of everything they do.
Channel 5 is pretty bad, and it really does make me want to throw up, for whatever reason. They are the most professional, but they need to loosen up at times, especially in the mornings.
Channel 4 always seems to be in between now. They have intriguing stories, friendly anchors, but just lack in quality sometimes.
Oh yeah... Isn't there a fourth station around there somewhere...?

I can't stand Cusomano. With him, everything is the greatest, most outstanding thing ever to happen in sports. All his gushing just makes me sick. Rene Knott sucks too. For sports, it's gotta be Martin Kilcoyne (who lives in the city).
Pro City? None of them. I guess a slight edge to Fox over KMOV.
But I really have a hard time watching all of them.

KSDK 5 is the worse - absolutely the worse! We usually call them BURG 5

Frank is definitely prone to overusing hyperbole and blowing things way out of proportion. I do appreciate his reporting though. And the fact that he is an ardent Billiken supporter means he is okay in my book. Rene is a freaking sports android - he is absolutely horrible.
Another reason I never liked Frank, he never pronounced my name right.
They're all lousy city supporters, IMO. I remember when Liza Zigmann was practically in tears, complaining how the Thomas Eagleton Courthouse (then under construction) was ruining her view to the arch-AAWWW, poor BABY!! Well, if you love seeing the arch so much, what are you doing living way out in West County, honey?...and Deanne Laine saying that the building was leaning...didn't she even realize she was insulting structural engineers and a qualified construction company??? What, did she expect them to tear it down, just because Deanne Laine thinks it's leaning? Maybe she's just cockeyed.
Oh, channel 4 isn't any better. Just last spring the black anchor (don't know her name) was telling some of the developments in the city (good for her...the only one who seemed to be supportive) and the white weather guy (don't know his name, either) was saying, "oh, not me...I'm staying in the county, where it's safe!" Well, I sent an email to the general manager on that one, asking him if he really thought that these kind of statements (made by the weatherman) were good for the region as a whole, and how the statements came off as elitist and racist, therefore very unproffessional and consequently embarrassing for St. Louis. His reply was...well, just a reply.
And we are to rely on these nincompoops to give us news and weather????? Sheeeeesh!!!
Don't really know anything NEGATIVE about Fox, just that they don't seem to tell or show support enough. But, shame on all of them. (They can't see the city for the buildings)

I still cannot get over that whole "I can't see the Arch from spot X" argument. It's not as if St. Louis is so cluttered that there's simply no where to go to see the Arch from a distance. (Not to mention the fact that it's truly meant to be viewed looking west, not east
)

KDNL(ABC-30) doesn't have local news. I don't think they've had it for 4 years now.
Matt Drops The H: Here, here!!!! You've said it plain, simple and eloquently!
Who is that blond female sportscaster on Channel 5??? She's better suited for Peoria news, and her country twang annoys the hell out of me. I never could stand Cindy Presler either. She seems like a good organizer for a church bake sale. Rebecca Wu would never make it in a larger market- I'm surprised she's making it here, because she's pretty choppy in her delivery.
I hope these newscasters aren't reading this-- it's not meant to offend, just an honest critique.

Is that what they want?
Did anyone see that 10-minute news segment on Channel 5 about Newtown St. Charles? If the answer as to which station is most anti-city wasn't clear before, it certainly is now. They were advertising this place as a utopic community "where everyone knows their neighbors," touting it as offering "the diversity of the city and the freshness and safety of the suburbs." Then they went on to interview a bunch of new residents who bragged about "convincing 5 co-workers to move here too" and talking about how neighbors actually talk to each other here, unlike U. City. Meanwhile, all these people looked like they spend a lot of time at Wal-Mart.
I hate Channel 5.
