Metro may cut service or up fares
By Ken Leiser
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
Friday, May. 09 2008

Metro may have to cut some bus and light-rail service or increase fares after
Jan. 1 unless it finds a new source of funding, officials said today.

The transit agency plans to hold a series of public hearings on its options
later this year. Metro's governing board will soon consider a budget for the
12-month period that begins July 1, but no service or fare changes are expected
before the New Year.

Meanwhile, St. Louis County leaders appear ready to ask voters in November to
approve a half-cent transit sales tax, said Mike Jones, senior policy adviser
to County Executive Charlie A. Dooley.

If approved, half of those proceeds would go to fund transit operations and the
other half would be used to develop new light-rail segments in the county.

1: roof top pool.. like most pool sit does not officially open until Memorial day. It was clean all last summer and there is no reason to think otherwise for this summer. It is just recently being brought back on-line for use from winter storage.

2: unit 17... there is nothing "wrong" with unit 17, its just, IMO, it is the most expensive single floor unit, and it faces north. not that the globe building inst a marvel worth viewing at for countless hours along with the Lucas ave foot traffic, but to each their own.

3: Living downtown a person have to get used to living with minimal storage. When I lived at Vangard, we had NOTHING, so the 4'x4' locker in the garage seemed like a swell storage place to me. I take it other places downtown offer a substantially greater amount of storage? However, since the fiance moved in I have had to rent a space at Public Storage, its only like 60/month for a 5x10. good for seasonal stuff.

Lucas Lofts isnt perfect, but that 10 year tax abatement sure is nice, very low taxes, be sure to take that into account when purchasing.

The Arch Rival Roller Girls were a huge hit at Mayor Slay's event last night at SLU's Chaifetz Arena. (They provided crowd control -- and a lot of energy.) Chaifetz would be a perfect permanent home arena for them.

Driving out 70 (observations) this place looks huge and the new mammoth digi screen sign is going to look very vegas and nice on the drive into/out of the city along 70.
I also like the signs with the names of the restaurants / clubs facing the interstate on the side of the parking structure. Looks "alive".

We're just gonna have to agree to disagree. Bottom line is that I think many here underestimate the stress and struggles of teaching, and that's why there are so many teachers that choose a different profession just a couple of years in.

But, for miguel's sake. Education is ultimately up to the student and whether they are willing to learn or not. A lot of that has to do with the mindset at home, but don't underestimate the influence that a teacher can have. I've gone through stretches in my life where I didn't care about school, but even then I did well in classes that were taught by good and experienced teachers who cared about me personally. I obviously haven't had to deal with the same things as many of those in the City Public District, but the point still stands.

I once had a teacher had been teaching for over 40 years (in Lutheran schools, so he wasn't exactly rolling in the dough) who said the problem with education in this country is that the powers that be think the way to fix it is by throwing money at it. (Edit: But forgive me for forgetting his idea to fix it).
